About Velvet Mosaic

Hi! I’m Katie! And I think I was a
magpie in a former life lol.

I’m originally from Texas, but I’ve traveled the world in the past 20 years, and I absolutely love seeing and experiencing beauty in the tiny details around me.

Velvet Mosaic is a story in two parts. 💙

The first part of this story is that I have always had a love of creating beauty in the places I’ve lived, and one of my favorite ways to do that is by thrifting super unique pieces! I have an eye for finding super cool shit, and I love the thrill of the hunt. I notice the tiniest details, and have an eye for that “je ne sais quoi” on the thrift store shelves!

The second part of this story is that I’ve been putting together gallery walls since I was a teenager, but I’ve really honed that skill in the past few years as I’ve embraced my maximalist self! More is more, and I love it! I’ve absolutely COVERED my bedroom walls in art, and I feel like I wake up in a storybook! I’ve covered hallways in gold frames, I’ve draped entryways in travel memorabilia, I’ve amassed Etsy art in modern frames, and filled a 10’ foot wall over a piano. I like to think I’m a connoisseur of proportion at this point! Lol.

Now, in 2024 I decided to try and figure out a way to make a business combining my skill of finding super cool second hand shit, and the art of putting together gallery walls. I’ve been buying art and brainstorming, and I made a TikTok video about the idea of a “Gallery Wall in-a-box”, and apparently that resonated with people because it blew up!

After 55k views, and over 900 comments, I knew the idea of creating a Gallery Wall made entirely of thrifted pieces, complete with a super easy to use template for installing it at home was exactly what Velvet Mosaic was made for. And here we are!
